Adult Class studying Gospel of Luke on Wednesday nights

On Wednesday evenings, following Vespers at 6:30pm, the adult education class is studying the entire Gospel According to St. Luke, covering roughly three chapters per session until the beginning of Great Lent. Commentary from the Holy Fathers of the Orthodox Church as well as modern Orthodox writers is being used to illuminate our reading of the sacred text.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Jan. 8: Chapters 1-3
  • Jan. 15: Chapters 4-6
  • Jan. 22: Chapters 7-9
  • Jan. 29: Chapters 9-12
  • Feb. 5: Class canceled due to winter weather
  • Feb. 12: Chapters 13-15
  • Feb. 19: Chapters 16-18
  • Feb. 26: Chapters 19-21
  • Apr. 23: Chapters 22-24

The Holy Mysteries: The Sacraments of the Orthodox Church
Presented by the Rev. Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick

What are the sacraments? What is their purpose? Are they just symbols? Does it matter if you receive them? How often should you receive them? Can non-Orthodox participate in them? Who can perform them? Is their effect permanent?

Ever wonder any of these things? Come learn in this new adult education series!

Classes are held following Vespers (6:30pm) on Wednesday nights at St. Paul Orthodox Church in Emmaus, PA.

  • Oct. 23: Baptism and Chrismation: Entrance into the Kingdom
  • Oct. 30: Holy Communion / The Eucharist: The Body and Blood
  • Nov. 6: Confession: A Second Baptism
  • Dec. 4: Holy Unction: Spiritual Healing
  • Dec. 11: Marriage: Journeying Together to the Kingdom
  • Dec. 18: Ordination: Set Apart by God

No class Nov. 13 (feast day in Souderton), Nov. 20 (Evening Liturgy for Entrance of the Theotokos), or Nov. 27 (Thanksgiving Break).

What is the Orthodox Church?

For those new to the Orthodox Christian faith, those interested in Orthodoxy, those who need some refreshing, those raised in the faith, those who want a more comprehensive understanding of the faith, and for those who have never (yet!) come to classes in the faith.

Classes are held following Vespers (6:30pm) on Wednesday nights at St. Paul Orthodox Church in Emmaus, PA.

  • Sept. 4: Encounter: Church Tour & Basic History of Christianity
  • Sept. 11: Who is God? Jesus Christ and the Salvation of Mankind
  • Sept. 25: What is Worship? The Point of Going to Church
  • Oct. 9: What is the Church? Scripture, Tradition and Church Authority
  • Oct. 16: Spiritual Life: What does life as an Orthodox Christian look like?

(No class on Sept. 18 and Oct. 2 due to Fr. Andrew traveling. Vespers will still be held at 6:30pm.)
