What is the Orthodox Church?

The basic fundamentals to get you familiar with the Orthodox Church, its teachings, traditions and worship—an “entry level” series for adults and teens about the world’s oldest Christian Church.

On Wednesday nights following Vespers at 6:30pm.

Sept. 9: Church Tour & Basic History of Christianity
Sept. 16: Who is God? Jesus Christ and the Salvation of Mankind
Sept. 23: What is Worship? The Point of Going to Church
Sept. 30: What is the Church? Scripture, Tradition and Church Authority
Oct. 7: Spiritual Life: What does life as an Orthodox Christian look like?

Who is this series for? Those who are unfamiliar with the Orthodox Christian faith, those new to Orthodoxy, those who need some refreshing, those raised in the church, those who want a more comprehensive understanding of the faith, and for those who have never (yet!) come to classes in the faith.

The series is presented by the Rev. Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick, pastor of St. Paul’s.

May 30 Seminar: The Orthodox Home

On Saturday, May 30, at St. Paul Orthodox Church (Emmaus, PA), Kh. Elizabeth Bushelli, homeschooling mother of seven and the wife of an Orthodox Christian priest, will lead a discussion on what it means to have an Orthodox Christian home.

Topics will include:

– Children’s education
– Structure of the home (God first, etc)
– Modeling humility and love to your children
– Finding time for God and prayer

In the month of May, a series of three lectures on evangelism in the Orthodox tradition will be offered at St. Paul Orthodox Church, presented by the Rev. Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick.

All lectures follow Vespers (evening prayer), which begins at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights.

Adult Class studying Gospel of Luke on Wednesday nights

On Wednesday evenings, following Vespers at 6:30pm, the adult education class is studying the entire Gospel According to St. Luke, covering roughly three chapters per session until the beginning of Great Lent. Commentary from the Holy Fathers of the Orthodox Church as well as modern Orthodox writers is being used to illuminate our reading of the sacred text.
