Breakfast to be held Sept. 13

A special breakfast in the church hall sponsored by the women of our parish will be held after the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, Sept. 13, 10:30am-12:30pm.

The menu includes: fruit cup, orange and tomato juice, scrambled eggs, pancakes, french toast, oven browned potatoes, sausage links / bacon, bread and butter, feta cheese, Syrian cheese, olives, coffee, tea and desserts.

Tickets for this popular event are already on sale and run $8 for adults and $5 for children (ages 5-10). (Children 4 and under are free.) Call 610-965-2298 for more information.

Saturday, Sept. 11: 2010 Teen Retreat

On Saturday, Sept. 11, St. Paul's will host a teen retreat from 2pm to approximately 7:30pm, led by Fr. Andrew, entitled Lust, Love, Sex and Marriage: Why God Cares About Your Body. The retreat will conclude with Great Vespers at 6pm, followed by dinner together.

Dormition Fast 2010

During the Dormition Fast (Aug. 1-14), we will celebrate the following special services:

- Paraklesis (Supplication) to the Theotokos at 6:30pm on Aug. 3, 10, 12 (bring names of the living to be prayed for)
- Vesperal Liturgy for the Transfiguration of Christ at 6:30pm on Aug. 5
- Great Vespers for the Dormition with the Lamentations for the feast at 6pm on Saturday, Aug. 14
- Festal Matins and Divine Liturgy at 8am and 9am, respectively, on Sunday, Aug. 15

Be sure to set aside the time with your families to mark this beautiful season of the Church.

2010 Eastern Dioceses Parish Life Conference

Roads From Emmaus Podcast launched

The Roads From Emmaus podcast, from Ancient Faith Radio, is produced in Emmaus, Pennsylvania, and hosted by Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick. It is particularly dedicated to exploring the intersection of place, communion, and revelation, just as Christ's communion with His disciples at the Biblical Emmaus revealed Him to them in the breaking of the bread. Episodes include meditations, sermons, classes, and lectures examining these and related themes.

March 13: Lenten Women's Retreat

A Lenten retreat for the women and girls of St. Paul will be held on Saturday, Mar. 13, at St. Tikhon's Monastery. The carpool will leave St. Paul's at 8am and return by 5pm. Features include a talk by one of the monastic brotherhood, a tour of the monastery, a visit to the bookstore and gift shop, carry-in lunch, and a pysanky (Ukrainian-style Easter egg decoration) workshop led by a local member of the community.

March 6: Pierogi Sale

On Saturday, March 6, 10am-1pm, parishioners of St. Paul's will be selling home-style pierogies to raise support for our parish ministries. (This is a postponement date due to the winter weather on the original Feb. 27 date.)

Great Outdoor Blessing of Water

The Great Outdoor Blessing of Water will be celebrated by St. Paul's at Furnace Dam Park in Emmaus on South 10th St. on Sunday, January 10 at 12pm.

In the Orthodox Christian tradition, the Christmas season is completed by the Great Feast of Theophany, the Baptism of Christ, which is accompanied by divine services to bless holy water for use in church and at home. The blessing of the waters of the Jordan which Christ performed at His baptism by St. John the Forerunner extends to the waters of all creation.

Thus, it is traditional for Orthodox churches to bless the waters in the places where they are located, an expression of the theology of the holiness of all of God's creation.

To get to the park from St. Paul's, turn left onto E. Main St. from the parking lot, then drive through downtown Emmaus, passing the Emmaus Triangle, where Main St. becomes Chestnut St. Turn left on S. 10th St., drive a few blocks, and the park will be on the left.

Pastoral Visit of His Grace, Bishop THOMAS

Our father in Christ, His Grace, Bishop THOMAS, will be making his pastoral visitation of St. Paul's Oct. 18-22, 2009. During this visit, we will celebrate the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, which will include the elevation to the rank of archpriest of our pastor emeritus, Fr. Theodore Mikovich.

The schedule of services on Sunday, Oct. 18, is as follows: 9:30am Matins, 10:30am Hierarchical Divine Liturgy

Following the Liturgy, in lieu of coffee hour, we will be sharing a special luncheon in honor of Fr. Theodore's elevation and Sayidna THOMAS's visit. (Contact Nancy Stellato for tickets.)

Chicken Dinner

On Saturday, October 10, 5-7:30pm, the Antiochian Women of St. Paul's will be sponsoring a chicken dinner to raise support for our parish ministries. We encourage you to come to Great Vespers (moved to 4pm on that day) and then partake of the good cooking of our ladies.

The menu includes: 1/2 roasted chicken, rice pilaf, green beans with tomatoes, spaghetti with marinara sauce, tossed salad, desserts, beverages, and coffee and tea.

Adult tickets are available for a donation of $10, and children's tickets (ages 5-10, featuring a chicken finger platter) are available for $5. Children 4 and under eat free!

At 7:30pm will be held the drawing for the Potpourri Basket Raffle.
